Taradise cd
By Debbie BossomTaranaki musicians are getting a chance to shoot for fame on a CD compilation called Taradise. The 17-track compilation features the province’s bands, deejays and hip-hop artists, proving that Taranaki music is alive and kicking. Taradise is a reflection of the province, promoting its surroundings, people and its culture, proving the growing music scene is always producing fresh sounds and talent. Particularly topical now is the song, “Western Crash” by Kapital, alias Robert Crow, also a recording producer. Crow wrote the song in September 1997, predicting the fall of western capitalism with the lyrics, “Western Crash, the highest buildings, falling like houses of cards, Western crash, religions failing, moral order fading fast.” The haunting song ‘R.I.P’ on the Taradise CD is from Channa Miriam’s first album, “She is freedom,” a reflective collection of thoughts and feelings. She wrote the lyrics and arranged the music, and was accompanied by Aaron Corbett on bass guitar and drums. Schizo Phrenia’s track on the Taradise compilation, ‘As intense as’ is the final one off their 1998 album, ‘No one’s laughing.’ Their pagan-driven guitar sounds feature the two rock personas of “Skin” and “Jack,” played by Lizzie and Michael Wheeler, Mark Devine on drums, Dave Roskilly on lead guitar, and Tania "Max" Ryken on bass guitar. The song ‘As Intense as’ was inspired by the Taranaki environment, life and relationships with different people, especially family. 3 Fold’s song on the Taradise CD, ‘The Word’ written in 1997 is about being young, speaking your opinion, life’s experiences and creativity. A line up of young guys that is forever changing, ‘3 Fold’, consists of Dean Humphrey’s, Sam D and Michael Gordon, who have been together for at least five years.
